Arcos de la Frontera, a town that Azorín proclaimed as “one of the most beautiful in Spain” was founded at the highest point of a cliff. Arcos is the natural access to Grazalema mountains and heads the well known White Villages Route. Its good travel connections allow easy day trips to Jerez and Cadiz Bay. The old town of Arcos, which was declared Historic and Artistic Monument in 1962, is worth a visit without hurry, enjoying a walk through its sinuous streets, whitewashed houses, old convents and majestic churches. Besides the opportunity to discover Arcos´ old quarter, a visitor may go to the lake and participate in some of the water sports activities there. Also nearby is a golf course open to the public.
